Prof. Mamokgethi Phakeng commenced her role as Vice-Chancellor of the University of Cape Town (UCT) on 1 July 2018, previously serving as Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Research and Internationalisation. Prior to UCT, she was Vice Principal for Research and Innovation at the University of South Africa (UNISA) and Dean of the College of Science, Engineering and Technology. She holds a PhD in Mathematics Education from the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits University) and is globally recognized as a leading scholar in mathematics education.
